What is the Award in Conflict Resolution and Personal Safety?
Under The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, employers must provide a safe place in which to work. The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 further state that employers have a duty to assess significant risk to employees – including the risk of violence. This legislation also states that the employer must implement appropriate control measures.
The cost to the business of not meeting these requirements is likely to be far more than just a £20,000 fine. Civil litigation costs, bad publicity, loss of workers, problems recruiting, loss of customers and increased insurance costs. Then there are the personal costs.
Prevention of conflict is important in order to resolve difficult situations before they escalate from disagreement to conflict, to violence. By implementing personal safety policies the organisation can show their commitment to a safe working environment.
