consolidation of a great number of confusing pieces of legislation.

- Workplace regulations 1997, amended 1999
The Law will not emphasise on preventing fire and reducing risk. It will become your responsibility
to ensure the safety of everyone who uses your premises, and in the immediate vicinity.
Fire certificate will no longer be valid.
You will need to comply to this new legislation before
1st October 2006 if you are:
- Responsible for any business premise
- An employer
- Self-employed with a business premises
- A charity or voluntary organisation
- A contractor with a degree of control over any premises.

You must undertake detailed fire risk assessment in your buildings to identify your own fire
safety risks and to comply with the current fire safety requirements. You will need to do the
following:
- carry out risk assessments and record the findings.
- carry out appropriate fire safety and escape training for employees
- Check your furniture and equipment on the premises comply with the current specified standard.
- have available adequate records of compliance to reduce risk
- Implement and have available the appropriate measures
- keep emergency routes clear at all times
- maintain fire safety equipments

Non compliance will invalidate your insurance and lead to prosecution. Dead line for compliance
is 1st October 2006. Enforcing authorities will be inspecting your premises to make sure
you comply, you will need to have all the relevant records available if inspected.
