What is the Business Foundation Programme ?
The Business Foundation Programme is a professional development programme for candidates wanting to enter into the licensed retail sector and key staff who want to improve their skills. The programme consists of four nationally recognised qualifications (BIIAB and CIEH) , National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders, Foundation Food Hygiene, Award in Beer and Cellar Quality and the Introduction to Licensed Retail Operations (Level 2) and also includes advice and information in areas such as Finance, Legal Requirements, Employment Law, Customer Service and Health and Safety.
Who is the qualification for?
The Business Foundation Programme has one simple aim, to improve business skills and give practical knowledge which will help profitability, productivity and careers for those entering the industry. The qualification is aimed at anyone who intends to own, lease or manage a licensed hospitality business - including:
Pubs, Bars, Hotels, Restaurants, Nightclubs, and any other venue or site where alcohol is sold.

The BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders?
Under the Licensing Act 2003, anyone authorising the retail sale of alcohol will have to hold a personal licence. In order to qualify for a personal licence, an applicant must hold a licensing qualification. BIIAB’s new qualification, the BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders, is both QCA accredited and Government approved, and has been specifically designed to meet the statutory requirements of the Licensing Act 2003.
