Professional Trainer Certificate

Awarded by Chartered Institute of Environmental Health

The Professional Trainer Certificate is designed to be delivered over 18 hours as a minimum.

It is designed to deliver process and not content. It is assessed by observation of trainers at work. It is intended to provide active reflection on existing training methods and to inspire the use of new accelerated learning techniques. It is intended to enable the sharing and feedback on good practice.

Training need and objectives
  • Be able to match training sessions to the ability and need of the student
  • Understand how to set SMART training objectives and how to secure learners' commitment to achieving them
Learning styles and preferences
  • Be aware of the factors that influence learning and use a simple but effective structure for Recognising and accommodating different learning preferences in any given training situation.
  • Understand how students have preferences for receiving and assimilating information.
Training Skills
  • Be able to select different and diverse training methods appropriately to meet different needs.
Training structure and design
  • Be able to design training sessions by carrying out effective planning and preparation.
Training Styles and Communication
  • Be able to use a variety of different ways of communicating information and making training more accessible and interesting to students.
  • Be able to use feedback and evaluation to ensure a process of continuous improvement.
Training Assessment
  • Understand a variety of different ways of assessing the effectiveness of training and measuring the results
  • Be able to use feedback and evaluation to ensure a process of continuous improvement.

This course is delivered over three days, during the third day each student will present a 20 minute training session on a subject of their choice. This will be assessed against 6 key performance criteria. To pass students must gain either A or B across all 6. Assessment will be undertaken using peer group, tutor and self assessment.
